
These workshops are designed to broaden perception, abilities and affinity for many different media, as well as spark a desire for future investigation and learning as a young artist. KidsArt has expanded its Summer Workshop programs to include a choice of half-day or full-day* workshops in some studios. Ages also vary according to studio. Check with your local studio for its specific schedule and ages by clicking here. *Half-day Workshops: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon; Full-day Workshops: 9:00 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

Students are taught how to create their own figures and storyboards. By learning how to draw features such as eyes, ears, noses, etc., students will learn how to create characters in a storyboard of their making. Great fun and excitement will result in seeing their storyboards come alive as students ink and color their finished drawings! The final project will be learning to draw and paint an animated cell in the classical manner.

Students learn to draw the most popular Anime characters, like Dragonball, Yu-gi-oh, Evangelion, and Guddami Wing! They will learn to use pen & ink, colored inks, and markers to create their favorite colorful characters. They will also learn the form and structure of the human body and head to enhance their drawings. Students will learn to draw Anime cartoon characters, which will WOW their friends with new found skills and techniques. They will also learn to evoke humor through exaggeration by using easily learned methods to draw favorite cartoon friends, as well as develop their own imaginative characters. They learn use shape, line, and color to createa fun & whacky world! Students will not only go away from this workshop with impressive drawings, but they will be able to show others how they did it! What better summer company than to spend it with favorite Anime friends!

Create a free standing sculpture of today's popular cartoons! Students will learn to draw current cartoon figures, as well as learn to paint with acrylics to bring color and life to figures. Once the cartoon figures are drawn and painted, students will be taught how to create those same cartoons to stand in a painted environment of their own making. Step-by-step they will see a two-dimensional cartoon painting turn into a 3-dimensional scene. Stand them around the house and watch friends clamor to be taught how to make these! Finished, standing cartoons will be bright & colorful decorations for the bedroom, office, or just to greet you on a shelf or counter in your home.

This is a hands on studio workshop where the student is guided from inception through a step-by-step process to the final finished piece. Students learn to create masks, animals, bar relief landscapes, and heads. The student sees the materials transformed while learning basic sculpting methods. Multiple materials and techniques are introduced to inspire interest and creativity. Students get their hands into the materials and let their imaginations flow! They will complete this workshop with wonderful, finished pieces that will bring lasting enjoyment for years!

Students will discover the fundamentals of drawing the human form and the structure of the human head. Building their powers of observation and ability to capture 3-dimensional qualities of the figure, they will explore major drawing techniques using graphite, charcoal, pastels, and conte crayons. Students will be surprised and delighted at how easily they will learn to draw lifelike representations of the human body and head. They will find that something that looks difficult in the beginning is easily mastered with a step-by-step method. They will complete this workshop with a great sense of accomplishment and pride!

This workshop allows students to explore most of our workshops, by giving them a taste of individual ones. They will spend each day learning something about our summer lineup of workshops. This exploration helps students decide what they are interested in pursuing in more depth, as well as teaching them many new skills.
Day 1: Cartoon Paper Sculpture
Learn how to draw and make a favorite cartoon into a three-dimensional paper sculpture.
Day 2: Portraiture
Learn the basic measuring techniques of drawing the human head. Then translate your new found knowledge into a self-portrait or family member.
Day 3: Cartooning
Increase your cartooning skills by learning fundamental procedures in drawing your favorite characters.
Day 4: Clay Sculpture
Draw, sculpt, and paint an animal of your choice in Sculpy.
Day 5: Anime
Learn to draw popular Anime cartoons.
